My name's Joshua Hager. I am a working-class guy, born in Charleston, SC, now living in North Carolina since 2022, and I have worked to survive month to month since I was living on my own at the age of 18. I'm 34 now. When I was 25 I heard Bernie Sanders message of healthcare as a human right, and it stuck with me ever since. I recently got certified as a phlebotomist in the healthcare industry and the cost of tests even with insurance is extremely high for most patients. That doesn't include the cost of medicine, premiums, copays, and deductibles. Many people in my own family, including my mom and sister, have suffered due to inadequate healthcare coverage. Poverty shouldn't determine your access to healthcare, housing, or education. Much of my life has been determined by my financial status, and so many others reading this have dealt with the same exact thing. Wondering if you are going to make your rent or have money for your vehicle when something inevitably breaks down. Many of you don't even have insurance because even with everything you've made you can't even afford it. We deserve better North Carolina.
